What is your mission statement for your career or business?

I want to create a career the likes of Vittorio Storaro, Roger Deakins, and Chris Doyle all balled up into one. I need a career that poses continual personal challenges, artistic revolutions, and growth of character. My mission is to support the socially conscious, honor humanity, and work from a place of outrageous freedom.

What excites you about what you do professionally?

I am an integral member of a team of visionaries that come together to tell a story on film. What excite me are the endless possibilities available in the manipulation of different variables in photography such as: perspective, light, color, and composition, to name only a few. I am especially passionate about how these elements fuse to evoke emotion in an audience. I believe the photographic image is not about creating a catalogue of the world; instead, it is about revealing how we see ourselves in it. I see images achieved by some of my heroes like Harris Savides, Roger Deakins, Robert Richardson, Christopher Doyle, Emmanuel Lubesky, etc. and it inspires me to study them and to understand the technical and creative decisions made in order to solve the dilemmas and challenges posed by the story they are telling. These experiences drive me to experiment on my own in preparation for work as a Director of Photography.

What is unique about what you and/or your company provide?

I provide many years of experience working on set. In those years I have learned from a crew’s point of view how a set is run given the logistical issues on the work to be done. This is very helpful in planning ahead and understanding the time and money limitations of each production. I have worked on films from the ultra low budget to the over 100 million dollar extravaganza, which gives me an understanding of the parameters and the tools afforded to the cinematographer in each given situation. In addition, I have established working relationships with some of the most experienced, successful and professional crewmembers in the business. These Individuals would be happy to collaborate with me on any project.

Tell me something about yourself personally that I don’t already know.

I am trilingual. Spanish is my mother tongue; I was born in Mexico and lived there until I was 15. English is my second language; I learned it once I moved to the United States. Once in college I learned Italian, in fact I finished my college education with a minor in Italian Literature. Speaking different languages has become very useful on set, in communicating more efficiently with people from different countries and backgrounds who are part of the crew.
